My internet is routed over a VPN using a pfsense router, so the hide.me VPN client is in the router. I saw no slowdown, but which country you "exit" from does seem to make a big difference. I am Australian and my exit point is Singapore which seems nice and fast, but if I use different countries it can impact performance a lot.
