May 12, 2012 · All the computers on my network keep resetting their DNS server to 8.8.8.8 which I believe is a Google public DNS. I change the DNS back to 192.168.1.1 and when the reset to 8.8.8.8. happens (often after just 5 minutes) the computers can't find the NAS drives and sometimes each other. This is new for 16.04LTS. I'm thinking Windows NT4 wasn't so bad and neither was Ubuntu Server 12. Remember to lock the settings on the pc or tablet or other device BECAUSE if they have access to the network settings all you have to do is enter 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 or other free dns in the dns settings and it will completely bypass your router and open dns and all the filtering.
